This Diamond in a Square quilt has all of the features that make it one of the best of its type. Fabrics; colors; needlework and condition are combined to make this a "stellar" example. Use of the same blue fabric for the inner and outer corner blocks as well as the triangles around the diamond make the pattern unusually cohesive. The quilt is made of the fine, thin wools used by the Amish in their early quilts. The backing is cotton. The center diamond is quilted with a star encircled by a wreath. The diamond tips are quilted with small baskets which is an unusual feature. The red inner border is quilted with what are known as pumpkin seeds. The outer border has a scrolling feather throughout.
Condition is excellent. Measurements are 74 inches square. Made circa 1920.
