Stunning version of a Roman Stripe quilt done on an unusual dark brown ground. The quilt is almost all wool with occasional pieces of velvet and cotton sateen. The fabric of the maroon inner border is used throughout the quilt. Both borders are quilted with cable patterns and half wreaths in the interior.
The backing is black cotton sateen.
This quilt was illustrated in Patricia Coblentz and Robert Bishop's "New Discoveries in American Quilts" published in 1975. It was sold in 1988 by America Hurrah. The original invoice for $4800. is included with purchase.
Measurements are 69" x 79"; Indiana Amish; excellent condition.
