"Old Homestead" Sampler Quilt; Ca. 1860; Maryland

item#

Exuberant Sampler Quilt from the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Very well designed with each of the blocks different and all four corners repeating the Carolina Lily pattern. Combination of original and traditional patterns but most unusual is the "Old Homestead" embroidered inscription below the building. In addition to the pieced and appliqued blocks creating a sampler, the quilting patterns do as well. Each block is well quilted with a pattern relating to the appliqued or pieced design. Professionally laundered; excellent condition with the only flaw being slight color smudge in the Tree block. Circa 1860; measures 76" square.
