This Amish Zig Zag quilt seems to be a unique interpretation. Both the construction and effect it creates are original. Strips of fabric were laid down on in a zig zag pattern. Straight lines were machine quilted, holding down the narrow strips of printed fabrics. The continuous turnings of the strips creates an effect somewhat like ric rac, but in fact it is not. The structure of the quilt with a center frame on a black ground and multiple borders is traditionally Amish. From that point, nothing is traditional about this quilt. The Streak of Lightning or Zig Zag is tremendously effective. Cotton fabrics; circa 1930. Ohio Amish; measures 59" x 76".
