Mennonite Open Center Quilt: Circa 1920; Pennsylvania
This unusual Mennonite quilt from western Pennsylvania is reflective of both the Ohio Amish open center pattern to the west and the Lancaster Amish Center Square pattern to the east. The maker of this quilt may have been influenced by both communities. Made of medium heavy wools with a cotton flannel backing. At least some of the fabrics were recycled as indicated by the button hole incorporated in one of the gray blocks (seen in thumbnail photo). Pristine condition. Measures 72" square; circa 1920.
