Group of 33 stunning broderie perse (chintz applique) quilt blocks. Fourteen of them are signed and and several are dated. Three of the blocks are dated 1842 but it is odd that another is dated 1852 and a third is 1860. They look as though they were made at the same time so the 18 year gap is difficult to understand. The blocks look to be made by the same person as all are finely appliqued with the tiniest of stitches. The blocks are approximately 13 inches square with several a bit smaller. Surnames include Lejee; Latch; Carvill; Stearne; Lennig; Hoffman and Stadelman. Only one mentions the name of a place - Roxborough, which is a suburb of Philadelphia. Several of the names were found in Philadelphia and surrounding areas.
