Unusually large sewing roll up case known as a "huswif". Measures 27" long and 6 3/4" wide. The interior is done with a variety of light and dark printed fabrics including a ruffle on the top end. The outside is plain linen. Remnants remain of two tabs for hanging which may explain why the backing is plain. It would not have been seen if it was meant to be hung more than rolled up. The initials HP are done in tiny cross stitch on one of the indigo blocks. These coincide with the accompanying needlecase with the inked name of Hannah Pinker (?). Very good condition; a tiny amount of fraying in a few places. Lancaster County, Pennsylvania origin; circa 1830.
