Unique crocheted and appliqued figural wall hanging made by North Carolina artist Kate Clayton Donaldson (1864 - 1960) known as Granny Donaldson. Donaldson saw images of similar designs draped over the backs of cows in Italy and set out to make her own versions. Each of Donaldson's pieces is a different design. Made of homespun and dyed wools. Excellent condition. Measures 22 1/2" from top of rod to bottom of fringe and 14" wide. Donaldson's works are in museum collections and documented in several books. Marble, North Carolina origin; circa 1940.
