Hourglass Quilt: Circa 1870; Pennsylvania   $1,775

Once again, it's stunning to realize that such a contemporary looking pattern and color combination can be more than 125 years old. This Hourglass (aka Bowtie) pattern quilt is made entirely with two beautiful printed fabrics. The tan background material is probably 10 years older (circa 1860) than the pink (circa 1870). Incredibly crisp, unwashed condition. Measures 84" x 88"; Pennsylvania origin.

Double Hexagons Quilt: Circa 1860; Pennsylvania
Double Hexagons Quilt: Circa 1860; Pennsylvania   $2,200

Early and compex quilt pattern of Hexagons within Hexagons. Forms a secondary pattern of Six Point Stars around the basic hexagonal block. Beautiful fabrics; heart quilted within each small triangle. Chevrons quilted in large light triangles and cables in the red banding. Difficult to see because of the heavily patterned fabrics but well done. Excellent condition. Measures 85" x 94"; Pennsylvania origin. Circa 1860.

Pinwheels Quilt with Matching Pillow Sham: Circa 1920   $775

This Pinwheels pattern quilt is calm and serene, yet not boring. It is a sophisticated shade of dusty rose done in cotton sateen, giving it something of a "dressed up" feel. The matching pillow sham is a true rarity. It would serve for the purpose for which it was intended, but equally well as a matching dresser scarf or wall hanging. Professionally laundered; nicely quilted. Quilt measures 79" square; pillow sham is 31" x 78". Circa 1920.

Baskets Quilt: Circa 1890; Pennsylvania
Baskets Quilt: Circa 1890; Pennsylvania   $1,985

Diagonal placement of the small size Baskets gives this quilt particular interest. Equally enhancing is the forest green background that is quilted in white. Nice variety of 1880's fabrics. Unwashed condition; well crafted. Lancaster County, Pennsylvania origin. Measures 79" square.

Antonio Pineda Sterling with Pearls Earrings and Brooch   $485

Two unusual designs by Antonio Pineda, highly collectible Mexican designer. Both in excellent original condition. Antonio was one of the few early Mexican designers who combined silver with pearls. Earrings measure 1 1/4" in length and 3/4" at widest. Brooch is 970 silver. Measures 2 1/2" x 1 1/2". Looks equally good worn vertically or horizontally.

Wool Schoolhouse Quilt: Circa 1910
Wool Schoolhouse Quilt: Circa 1910   $1,250

Anybody know what the initials SES stand for on this Schoolhouse comforter? My guess is Sex Education School. Very interesting mix of crude and sophisticated. The frame with vertically placed blocks is particularly well designed with color and fabrics deliberately planned. Red outlines each of the black corner blocks; the center 3 blocks of each side have fabrics distinguished from all others in the quilt. Excellent condition with the exception of several missing ties. Circa 1910; measures 62"... Click for details

Wool Challis One Patch Quilt: Circa 1870; Pennsylvania   $1,975

The simple One Patch pattern is made extraordinarily rich and sparkly by the use of a multitude of glorious fabrics of the 1860's and 70's. All are fine wool challis. Lightweight; quilted but no batting. Each block measures 1 1/2" square. Tremendous use of lights and darks; printed and solid fabrics. Back is somewhat fragile and has had several mends; front is in excellent condition. Measures 85" square; Pennsylvania origin.

Mariner's Compass Quilt: Circa 1860
  Mariner's Compass Quilt: Circa 1860   $4,200

Mariner's Compass is one of the most difficult patterns to execute. This example is particularly finely done. Unwashed condition shows several light smudges that could be removed with laundering but in my opinion, not worth losing that never washed feel. Has one old appliqued, inconspicuous mend visible in thumbnail photo. Beautifully quilted. Measures 88" square; circa 1860.

Philadelphia Pavement Quilt: Circa 1890; Pennsylvania   $895

Unwashed, mint condition Philadelphia Pavement quilt. Border print is beautiful shade of cadet blue, not often seen in quilts of this era. In fact, the entire palette of this quilt is out of the ordinary. Wonderful contrast of dark calico prints with yellow highlights and pink striped centers. Each block measures 1 3/4" square. Pennsylvania origin: circa 1890. Measures 70" x 76".

Nine Patch Quilt: Circa 1870; Pennsylvania   $2,500

Classic Nine Patch quilt made most unusual by a dramatic stepped border. Beautiful 1870's fabrics. Small scale blocks; each Nine Patch is 3 1/2" square. Several light brown spots due to the unwashed condition. Strong enough to be laundered but not essential. Measures 74" x 88"; Pennsylvania origin.
