Log Cabin Pin Cushion: Circa 1`870: pa.   $275.    

Unusually large pin cushion done as a Pineapple Log Cabin. It measures 4 1/2" a 8" and 3" tall. It is made of fine wool and is probably filled with sawdust. Excellent condition; Pennsylvania origin. Made in the 1870's.

This unusual practice piece of cross stitched designs includes flowers; birds and geometric patterns on a blue checked ground. Most often, this type of work is seen ornamenting aprons; pillows or comforters but it is quite rare to see as large a piece as this with a variety of patterns. Most are cross stitched directly to the large ground material but several were done on smaller pieces of fabric and appliqued to the main piece. Bag with appliqued FOR A DEAR GIRL; Circa 1860   $1450.   

This is a completely charming, well made, unique bag. In addition to the finely done lettering, a heart; spades and an hourglass shape are appliqued on the front. The back is done with appliqued baskets, leaves and flowers. Extraordinarily fine cross stitches fasten the appliques. It is in excellent condition; probably New England origin. Measurements are 9" wide and 12" tall.This was probably the work of a very loving mother.

Early woman's waist pocket made entirely of linen. The front is seven pieces of the same block printed fabric. The backing is plain linen. Excellent condition with both ties intact. Measures 17" tall and 13" at widest. Circa 1820; new England origin.
