Dramatic, unique Center Medallion Quilt done mostly in velvet with a smattering of wool and silk. Not finely quilted but the use of tan thread against the dark fabrics adds additional texture to the quilt. Backing is cotton. Nice combination of both regular and irregular blocks. Measures 74" x 80". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1920.

Amazing how two simple diamond shapes can create so many simultaneous patterns as in this Spinning Stars quilt. Fabrics are soft red and blue chambrays. Lots of whirling movement and positive/ negative effects. Pristine, unwashed condition. Nicely quilted with a combination of floral and geometric patterns. Measures 76" x 78". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1900.
