This original applique quilt is closest to the pattern known as True Lover's Knot. It is exquisitely embellished with trapunto quilting. A variety of flower and leaf designs are done in three dimensional quilting throughout the white grid. Pods in the border are cleverly done in reverse applique with the body of the pod having a shadowy effect against the dark seeds. Each seed has delicate buttonhole stitching around it. This is a particularly bold and vibrant Mariner's Compass quilt. The use of solid reds adds drama to this desirable pattern. Concentric circles are quilted around each compass. It has been professionally laundered and in excellent condition. Massachusetts origin. Measurements are 78" x 90".

This Light and Dark Log Cabin quilt is a particularly well done example of a classic pattern. Many log cabins are not actually quilted and this one is, as can easily be seen in the red centers. It is a popular belief that the frequently used red centers of log cabins represent the hearth of the home. The piano key border is an especially desirable edge treatment. This Texas Puzzle quilt is made from a variety of exquisite printed wool challis fabrics. The back consists of seven alternating narrow and wide Bars of equally beautiful challis prints, making the quilt totally reversible. It is very light in weight; excellent condition. Made circa 1870; Berks County, Pennsylvania. Measurements are 76" x 80".
