Beautifully quilted version of a Caesar's Crown quilt. The diamond shapes of the border are repeated in each crown block, making for a nice interplay between the two. It is also interesting to note that the white off blocks create a secondary pattern of a four leaf clover.
Professionally laundered and in excellent condition. Measures 86" x 90": Pennsylvania origin; circa 1860.

This imaginatively conceived quilt is illustrated in Safford and Bishop's "America's Quilts and Coverlets" where it is described as "One of the most unusual applique and trapunto quilts to be preserved. The design is completely original, finely drawn and expertly worked". Stuffed work wreaths are between both of the appliqued circles as well as trapunto in the corners.
Condition is excellent; measurements are 87" square.

Both the quilting and the applique are finely detailed in this Floral Album Quilt, probably made in Baltimore.The fabrics are used in a most sophisticated way, giving shading to the grapes and texture to the acorns. The vining grapevine border begins at the bottom and has an opening at the top, an unusual detail. The four corner blocks are the same which visually contributes to the framed effect. Very finely made Barnraising on Square Log Cabin Quilt. It is made of light wools with each log just 1/4" wide. The perfect use of lights and darks gives this quilt tremendous dimensionality. It was made in Pennsylvania in the 1870's but is as strikingly contemporary looking as though it was made today. The front is in excellent condition but there is weakness to the backing material. Measurements are 77" square. Pennsylvania origin.
