Barnraising Log Cabin quilt done in silks and satins with velvet centers making it far dressier and more elegant than most cotton versions. Small scale to the quilt and the blocks. Cotton sateen border and backing with cable quilting throughout the border. Excellent condition. Measures 62" square; Pennsylvania origin. Circa 1890.

This Philadelphia Pavement variation is bold and strong in every way. Unwashed condition. A small white spot on one of the blue blocks is part of the paper label from the bolt of fabric, further indication that the quilt has never been laundered. Terrific grouping of fabrics typical of southeastern Pennsylvania quilts of the late 19th century. Equally striking on the reverse Open Center pattern done in a different palette. Measures 80" square; circa 1880.

Straight Furrows Log Cabin Quilt: Circa 1910; Pa.   $875  

Straight Furrows Log Cabin pattern with two unusual features: the center of each log is divided on the diagonal adding intensity to the furrows; and the color scheme is out of the ordinary. The blacks and grays are not often seen in such predominance with the other colors chosen for this quilt. Unwashed condition; flawless with the exception of two small, old and well done patches on the border that are visible in the last thumbnail photo. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1910. Measures 74" square.

I believe this to be a unique combination of the patterns Birds in the Air and Straight Furrows. Wonderful arrangement of lights and darks makes this country quilt very dramatic. Pristine, unwashed condition. Lebanon County, Pennsylvania origin. Measures 76" x 80". Totally reversible to Bars back on which the quilting, particularly the cable pattern throughout the border, shows even better than on the front. Circa 1890.

Russian Sunflower Quilt: Circa 1870   $2,400  

Rich colors, a strong pattern and beautiful printed fabrics make this Russian Sunflower Quilt one of the best of its kind. Quilting echoes the circular blocks of the sunflowers. Excellent, unwashed condition. Has an old inconspicuous mend less than the size of a dime in one outer border. Measures 74" x 94"; Circa 1870. Probably North Carolina origin.

Who can imagine a Sunbonnet Sue quilt cuter than this with the girls chatting over the garden gate? To the best of my knowledge, this is an original rendition of a popular pattern. Excellent condition; well quilted. Dated 1932. Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Measures 65" x 76".

Pristine, unwashed Sailboats quilt done in a lovely blend of soft tones arranged to form diagonal bands of color The pink fabric is chambray; some of the blue and green prints are polished cotton. Sunflower/ Rising Sun Quilt: Circa 1890; Pennsylvania   $2,250  

An exuberant quilt that is unusual in several ways. The egg yolk colored centers of each sunflower date to about 1890. The three different printed fabrics used for the diamonds all date between 1830 and 1850. Wonderful border treatment really does give the effect of rising suns. Very well quilted; unwashed condition. Fabrics used for the white background have aged to different shades of ivory. If washed, they would likely all be closer to the same shade of white but I prefer to let a quilt... Click for details

Beautifully pieced Feathered Stars Quilt done in pink and green calico, prototypical colors of southeastern Pennsylvania. Unwashed condition; has one very light spot on one of the pink calico areas that only can be seen in certain lights. Extremely dramatic. Measures 78" x 98"; Berks County, Pennsylvania origin. Circa 1870.
