Nine Patch in Bars Quilt: Circa 1870; Pennsylvania   $2,275

Great combination of Bars and Nine Patch Quilt. Extra bonus is the Cheater's Cloth backing, making it totally reversible to a printed patchwork. Nine Patches are smaller than postage stamp size. Each piece is a miniaturized 1/2" to a side. Excellent condition; damage to only one block - visible in last of the thumbnail photos showing the Nine Patches. Terrific fabrics both front and back. Measures 76" x 78". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880.

Thousand Pyramids Quilt: Circa 1850; Pennsylvania
Thousand Pyramids Quilt: Circa 1850; Pennsylvania   $2,850

Stunning grouping of early 19th century fabrics used to make the triangles of this Thousand Pyramids quilt. Professionally laundered; pristine condition. Lovely soft tone tan chintz border of two different fabrics. Probably in the 19th century, this was quilt was likely made smaller. Only on the back does one see a seam next to two of the borders. This was exquisitely done and does not show at all on the front. Measures 92" square; circa 1850. Pennsylvania origin.

Fans Quilt: Circa 1930; Maryland   $495

Fans quilt in colors that look like they've been drawn with crayons. The use of all solid colors makes for a bold image. A little primitive in construction but dynamic nonetheless. Measures 66 x 78"; Maryland origin. Circa 1930.

Fleur-de-lis Applique Quilt: Circa 1870; Pa.
  Fleur-de-lis Applique Quilt: Circa 1870; Pa.   $1,175

Fleur-de-lis applique pattern with exquisite quilting. Corner blocks and border are the same fabric; the rest of the appliques are a second material. Triangle border is a nice contrast to the curvilinear forms of the blocks. Professionally laundered. Several spots of very well done, inconspicuous darning on the brown border. It seems as though the quilt may have gotten caught on something because everywhere else, the fabrics are healthy and strong. Measures 76" x 92"; Pennsylvania origin. Circa... Click for details

Sawtooth Diamond Quilt: Circa 1920; Pennsylvania   $985

Extremely finely made Sawtooth Diamond quilt. Soft colors keep this bold design from being overpowering. Nicely quilted with several different patterns. Slightly salmon shade of pink; high quality cottons. Excellent, unwashed condition. Measures 78" square. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1920.

Diamond in a Square Quilt: Circa 1870
Diamond in a Square Quilt: Circa 1870   $975

The origin of this Diamond in a Square Quilt with embroidery is a mystery. Clearly, the pattern is reminiscent of Lancaster County Amish but it is not that. It is possible that it is English, but not a pattern one would see often. The use of the embroidered flowers and printed paisley (probably from a shawl) are unusual, regardless of where it was made. Slight wear does not distract from the overall impact of the graphics. Small circles are mostly embroidery, not damage. Medium weight wools with... Click for details

Pinwheels Quilt: Circa 1870; Pennsylvania   $365

Groups of four Pinwheel blocks are set together to create a dense pattern with lots of movement. Browns, greens and teals together make for an especially rich palette. Machine quilted. Several water marks visible on border and one in lowest of middle group of Pinwheels. Fabrics are strong and could probably be washed but I have not touched it. Backing is pieced bars. Measures 78" x 86". Franklin County, Pennsylvania Quilt Documentation project label is shown on thumbnail photo. Circa 1870.
Pinwheels Quilt: Circa 1870; Pennsylvania
Tumbling Blocks Quilt: Circa 1860; Pennsylvania
Tumbling Blocks Quilt: Circa 1860; Pennsylvania   $2,800

This is both the earliest and largest Tumbling Blocks quilt that I have seen. It measures an enormous 102" x 116"; generous for a king size bed or a fabulous wall hanging for a loft space. This pattern is always dramatic but the scale of this makes it unusually so. Well quilted; hand loomed Trenton tape binding. Front is in excellent condition. There is one dark spot about the size of a dime that is visible in first thumbnail close-up. Staining on the back does not come through to the front.... Click for details
