Mennonite Touching Stars Quilt: Circa 1890; Pennsylvania   $2,200

Windmill Blades Log Cabin Doll Quilt: Ca. 1880; Pa.
Windmill Blades Log Cabin Doll Quilt: Ca. 1880; Pa.   $485

This Windmill Blades (aka Pineapple) Log Cabin doll quilt is simultaneously crude and sophisticated. The concept of a central Blade with a piano key border could not be better. Pink strips are regularly placed in the corners and middle so it seems that the maker was intentional in her choices. Execution, though, is a little wonky which actually adds a lot of charm. It is mounted on a stretcher measuring 18 1/4" x 19 1/4". Excellent condition; made circa 1880's in Pennsylvania.

Pair of Streak of Lightning Pillow Cases: Ca. 1830; Pa.   $935

This is one of the finest and earliest pairs of pillow cases I have had the pleasure to own. They Streak of Lightning is a pattern rarely seen in pillow cases. They are in excellent condition with beautiful fabrics and hand crocheted lace on the edges. Measurements are 17 1/2" x 31" including edging. Lancaster County, Pennsylvania origin; circa 1830's.

Caesar's Crown Quilt with Mariner's Compass: Ca. 1850
  Caesar's Crown Quilt with Mariner's Compass: Ca. 1850   $3,875

The combination of Caesar's Crown with Mariner's Compass patterns and their placement are brilliant. The central and corner block compasses draw the eye throughout the piece. The floral chintz border and pink sashing soften the geometry of the pieced patterns. Professionally laundered and in excellent condition. There is very slight toning to the back that does not show on the front. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1850. Measurements are 96" square.

Hourglass And Bars Crib Quilt: Ca. 1890; Pa.   $1,450

This Hourglass Crib Quilt on a striped ground is an unusual but very successful pairing of patterns. The choice of satin fabrics is also out of the ordinary. It is in pristine condition and is mounted on a stretcher measuring 31" x 31 1/2". It is very effective as an abstract design both vertically or horizontally. Made in Pennsylvania; circa 1890.

Birds in the Air Quilt: Circa 1920; Pennsylvania
Birds in the Air Quilt: Circa 1920; Pennsylvania   $2,300

This rendition of Birds in the Air is certainly an imaginative one. Each large triangle is filled with cotton crazy patches. It is finely made and in pristine, unwashed condition. The small irregular pieces look like a collage. The off blocks are a tiny indigo and white gingham check fabric. The indigo print backing and inner border are from the 1920's while all is is from the 19th century. Measurements are 68" x 74"; Pennsylvania origin.

One Patch Quilt with ZigZag Border; Ca. 1860; Pa.   $1,450

Several features elevate this One Patch Quilt pattern far beyond the basic pattern that it is. Subtle variation in the use of printed red fabrics add an effective shading. Abutting the blocks gives a nice positive/negative effect and finally, the strong zig zag border frames it all beautifully. The quilt is in excellent condition and nicely quilted. The white blocks alternate two different leaf patterns. Measurements are 68" x 72"; excellent condition. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1860.

Tumbling Blocks in Bars Quilt: Ca. 1890; Pa.
Tumbling Blocks in Bars Quilt: Ca. 1890; Pa.   $1,675

To the best of my knowledge, this quilt in which the Tumbling Blocks pattern is set in Bars, is a unique pattern. The maker of this quilt certainly had a distinctive eye in that her choice of fabrics is also out of the ordinary. The Tumbling Blocks effect works equally well when the quilt is viewed both vertically and horizontally. It is in excellent condition and truly one of a kind. Measurements are 77" x 84". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1890.

Concentric Frames Quilt: Circa 1880; Pa.   $1,775

This concentric frames quilt is made entirely with 2 1/2" squares set end to end to create bands of color. Only the center uses alternating colors to create a nine patch block. The colors are very rich with just the right amount of punch from the orange band. The quilt is in pristine, unwashed condition. Measurements are 80" x 83". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880.

Birds in the Air Quilt: Circa 1880; Pa.
Birds in the Air Quilt: Circa 1880; Pa.   $1,485

This Birds in the Air Quilt is done with a lush combination of saturated colors. The red printed ground combined with the purple printed border are fabrics not often seen. They combine beautifully and work well with the prints of the small triangles. The maker included just enough pink to give a flutter to the flying birds. The scale of the quilt with just nine blocks filled with small triangles is unusual and very effective. The quilt is in pristine, unwashed condition. Measurements are 83" x... Click for details
