Patriotic Centennial Quilt with Eagle Center Medallion   Sold

This patriotic quilt with a central medallion of a stuffed applique eagle is surely one of a kind. It was most likely made to celebrate the Centennial. The quilt is an exceptional combination of both bold and delicate patterns. The wreaths surrounding the eagle are filled with butterflies, a tiny basket, hearts, birds and flowers. It has been professionally laundered and is in excellent condition. Measurements are 85 inches x 90 inches.

Cockscomb and Currants Quilt: Circa 1870; Pennsylvania
Cockscomb and Currants Quilt: Circa 1870; Pennsylvania   $875

Exquisitely quilted version of the traditional Cockscomb and Currants pattern. Wreaths, flowers and feathers are stitched throughout this lovely applique quilt. Nine Patch Crib Quilt: Pennsylvania; Circa 1880   $635

This Nine Patch crib quilt is as crisp as the day it was made some 135 years ago. It is in pristine, unwashed condition. The fabrics are a nice combination of calico prints with an especially unusual material for the border. The two lighter blocks may have been made to indicate that side for the head. One of the squares in the lower right corner is especially dear as it is made of two different fabrics - not quite enough to go around. The backing is a Bars pattern with the same brown print as... Apples Quilt: Circa 1870
  Apples Quilt: Circa 1870   $785

Whimsical would be the best way to describe this unusual fruit quilt. I believe they are meant to be apples but one can also make a case for cherries. Regardless of which you prefer, it is in excellent condition; made circa 1870. It is quilted with concentric diamonds and has a border on three sides that alternates the colors of the fruit. Measurements are 80 inches square.

Hexagons Charm Quilt: Circa 1870's; Pennsylvania   $1,975

This Hexagons quilt is unusual for several reasons. It is a charm quilt which means that no fabric is repeated. Many are similar but on close examination it is evident that they are not the same print. The overall design of the pattern is also well out of the ordinary. A number of the fabrics have figures and animals. The quilt is in excellent condition. Measurements are 82" x 88", large for the 1870's when it was made. Pennsylvania origin.

Nine Patch Crib Quilt: Circa 1880; Pennsylvania   $725

This charming crib quilt is made with Nine Patch blocks that abut one another creating a Bars pattern. Between the rows of Nine Patches are four rows of fabric; three of which are different aspects of the same print. The quilt is in very good condition. The fabrics are all strong and intact. There is some very slight discoloration on the pink calico border. Measurements are 40" x 45 1/2". Oley, Pennsylvania (Berks County) origin; circa 1880.

Reversible One Patch and Nine Patch Quilt: Circa 1880's; Maryland   $395

This reversible comforter is probably meant to have the Nine Patch as the front as that is the side on which it is tied. To my eye, the One Patch is far more beautiful as both the color combination and the printed fabrics are luscious. The primary red print has birds in nests. The quilt is in pristine, unwashed condition. It is from Frederick County, Maryland; circa 1880's.

Laurel Leaf Quilt: Circa 1860
Laurel Leaf Quilt: Circa 1860   $1,875

This well designed, bold Laurel Leaf quilt is a traditional pattern done in an unusual way. The same block is repeated throughout but the placement of color and the double sawtooth frames makes it appear as though more is going on. It gives it a contemporary feel even though it was made in the 1860's.The quilt has been professionally laundered and is in excellent condition. Measurements are 72" x 73".

Original Applique Quilt with Oakleaves: Circa 1860; Pennsylvania   $2,250

This beautiful applique quilt appears to be an original pattern alternating with traditional oakleaves. The red fabric is as unusual as the pattern. It is very well quilted with wreaths between the applique. The centers have different designs including hearts; stars; apples; flowers and a pear. The quilt is in excellent unwashed condition. There is slight unevenness to the background that could be remedied with a wash but I don't feel it is necessary. Measurements are 86" x 88". Pennsylvania... Click for details
