Pots of Flowers Quilt: Dated 1876; Pennsylvania   $2,985

This exuberant Pots of Flowers Quilt is finely quilted and appliqued. It is dated 1876 in quilting with initials EG. Abutting hearts in the center are a lovely design but the star they form makes it even more special. The center design is surrounded by a quilted wreath. Partial wreaths are throughout the body of the quilt. Flower buds in the pots are repeated in the border to make it all a perfectly unified design. The quilt has been professionally laundered and is in mint condition.... Click for details

Postage Stamp Quilt: Circa 1890; Pennsylvania
Postage Stamp Quilt: Circa 1890; Pennsylvania   $1,095

This Postage Stamp quilt forms a wonderful overall pattern by the use of light and dark fabrics. Both prints and solids are incorporated in this dramatic design. The red and white polka dot material of the border is continued within the quilt to create the triangles on each side. The backing is an ivory tone cotton sateen. The quilt is in excellent condition. It is from Pennsylvania; last quarter of the 19th century. Measurements are 74" x 76".

Applique Doll Quilt with Log Cabin: Circa 1890; Pennsylvania   $1,095

This appliqued; pieced and embroidered doll quilt is an unusual combination of pattern and technique. It is divided into an overall windowpane design within which are a combination of flowers and strips much like a log cabin. The entire composition is thoughtfully and imaginatively laid out. The quilt is professionally mounted on a stretcher measuring 20" x 20 1/2". Excellent condition; Pennsylvania origin; circa 1890.

Patriotic Shields Quilt: Circa 1910; Pennsylvania
Patriotic Shields Quilt: Circa 1910; Pennsylvania   $2,900

Feeling patriotic, anyone? This unusual Shields quilt is combined with diamonds in squares to create an original, all-American design. Half diamonds frame the pattern well. The quilting is not elaborate. It is done in straight lines in the body of the quilt and diamonds in the border. The concentric diamonds are machine appliqued. The quilt is in excellent condition. There is one light smudge that can likely be removed with a wash but I have done nothing to it as I do not find it... Click for details

Nine Patch Medallion Quilt: Circa 1920; Pennsylvania   $975

The basis of this quilt is a Nine Patch pattern but the way it is put together adds additional interest. The alternating of light and dark blocks in addition to the center frame make it a wonderfully abstract composition. It is a beautiful shade of medium blue from the 1920's. The quilt is in pristine, un-used condition. Measurements are 82" x 98"; Pennsylvania origin.

Princess Feather Quilt with Stuffed Applique: Circa 1860; Pennsylvania
Princess Feather Quilt with Stuffed Applique: Circa 1860; Pennsylvania   $2,985

This Princess Feather (aka Prince's Feather) quilt has two particularly unusual features. The central motif as well as the centers of the feathers are all stuffed applique. Four hearts surround the very center motif. Yellow within the stuffed work appliques really makes them pop. The other especially distinctive feature is that the feathers terminate in unusual pointed shapes. The quilt is in excellent, unwashed condition. It is nicely quilted with a variety of patterns. Pennsylvania origin;... Click for details

Light and Dark Log Cabin Quilt: Circa 1870; Pennsylvania   $1,875

This Light and Dark Log Cabin quilt is a fine example of the logs often made of fine wool challis in Pennsylvania during the third quarter of the 19th century. This quilt has more going for it than being beautifully made and color coordinated. It is also well documented and illustrated in "Layers: Unfolding the Stories of Chester County Quilts". It is accompanied by a note saying it was "Made by Mary M. Shields about 1850 Log Cabin pattern". A copy of the book is included with the purchase. Mary... Click for details

Mariner's Compass Quilt: Circa 1870; Pennsylvania
  Mariner's Compass Quilt: Circa 1870; Pennsylvania   $1,400

This finely made Mariner's Compass quilt is dense in both piecing and use of patterned fabrics. The fabric of printed circles of the background is an imaginative choice to mirror the circular compasses. The points of the compasses and sawtooth triangles are crisp and well defined. The quilt is in unwashed condition with one condition apology. There were some cracks in one side of the border fabric. It has been covered with invisible netting sewn over that end of the entire quilt. The netting... Click for details

Fence Rail Log Cabin Doll Quilt: Circa 1890   $450

This Fence Rail Log Cabin doll quilt is made of richly colored plush velvets. Each block is just 2 inches to a side. The quilt is in a goldleaf frame (not of the period) measuring 13 3/4" x 20". The quilt appears to be in perfect condition although I have not seen it out of the frame. There are a few chips to the frame. The colors are beautifully coordinated. The quilt dates to about the 1890's.

Bowmansville Postage Stamp Quilt: Circa 1890; Pennsylvania
Bowmansville Postage Stamp Quilt: Circa 1890; Pennsylvania   $2,200

Bowmansville, a small town in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania is known for their quilts that are most often Star patterns made of squares. To my knowledge, this variation is unique. The complex and bold overall pattern is made of 1 1/2 inch squares of printed fabrics. The quilt measures 70" square. It is in excellent condition; made circa 1890.
