One can describe this mid-West Amish doll quilt as either a Bars or a Chinese Coins pattern. In either case, it is wonderfully "arty" in both design and colors. The quilt is made of wool and cotton. The binding is the backing turned over to the front. Measurements are 13" x 14 1/2". It is in excellent condition. Made circa 1930.

Silk Hourglass Doll Quilt: Circa 1870
Silk Hourglass Doll Quilt: Circa 1870   $395

This Hourglass (aka Bowtie) doll quilt is unusually fancy as it is made entirely of silk. The fabrics were most likely dress materials from the 1860's - 70's. The maker cleverly used the same triangles for the border as the body of the quilt. Placing them at right angles, though, gives them a very different appearance. The quilt is in excellent condition. Measurements are 12 1/2" x 17 3/4".

Ohio Amish Hole in the Barn Door Doll Quilt: Circa 1920   $625

This Ohio Amish Hole in the Barn Door is large for a doll quilt. It measures 18" x 22 1/2". Some would call this size a cradle quilt. Regardless of how one labels it, the quilt is charming. Each block is nicely scaled at 2 3/4" in diameter. It is hand quilted with postage stamp size squares in white thread. The binding is done by machine as is often the case with Amish quilts. The backing is the same blue fabric as used on the front. Condition is excellent. Ohio origin; circa 1920.

Bowtie Doll Quilt: Circa 1880; Pennsylvania
Bowtie Doll Quilt: Circa 1880; Pennsylvania   $675

It's difficult to imagine a more charming doll quilt than this delightful Bowtie. The contrast of dark and light makes for a strong graphic. The maker was clearly proud to quilt it on a sewing machine as she used white thread to highlight the stitching. The concentric chevrons quilted in the border are a nice decorative touch. The interior is quilted with squares. The quilt measures 14 1/4" x 14 1/2". The front is in pristine condition. Several smudges (visible in thumbnail photos) do not... Click for details

Lone Star Doll Quilt: Circa 1880; Pennsylvania   $485

This Lone Star (aka Texas Star or Star of Bethlehem) doll quilt is a terrific miniature. Rarely does one see a small one in this pattern. The quilt measures 23 1/2 inches square. Because it is square, it would look especially good if hung on point. It is well quilted with floral medallions in the corners around the Star; cable in the pink border and diagonal lines in the outer border. The front is in spotless condition. There are scattered small orange spots on the back that do not show... Click for details

Pot of Flowers Painted Mat: Circa 1870; New England   $675

This painted pot of flowers was probably intended as a decorative table mat. It measures 9 1/4" long x 8 5/8" wide and is professionally mounted on a stretcher that is 11 1/4" x 12". It is signed on the bottom Irena Foater who was probably the proud maker but might also have been the recipient. There is a small right angle tear in the central flower that shows in the thumbnail. There are no other condition issues. Based largely upon the plaid fabric used for the binding, I date this to about... Click for details
