Mariner's Compass Quilt: Circa 1880; Lancaster Co.,Pa.   $1,435

Mariner's Compass quilt done in the most typical of eastern Pennsylvania ( Lancaster County, in this case) calico fabrics. Interesting use of the diamond inner border usually seen in Lancaster County Amish quilts. Fabrics are all strong and intact; several very light stains are not obtrusive. Measures 87" square; circa 1880. A well made example of a pattern that is very difficult to execute.

Solid red fabric on a ground of tiny black dots. Measures 80" square; Pennsylvania origin. Circa 1890.

Solid colors set on double blue calico seen most often in southeastern Pennsylvania. Binding repeats the red of the stars and creates a wonderful narrow frame. Unwashed condition; circa 1880. Measures 85" square.
