Flying Geese Quilt: Circa 1830   $2,450   

Richly colored Wild Goose Chase quilt (aka Geese in Flight) from the early 19th century. Abutting the triangles gives a terrific up and down movement to the "geese". Streak of Lightning border was meant to indicate the end for the head. Clamshell quilting in outer border; diagonal lines and stylized flowers in the triangles. It is safe to say that this amazing quilt filled with animals is a one of a kind. It is a glorious combination of barnyard animals as well as whales; giraffes and fish. In addition, it has a variety of fruits and vegetables. It is a summer spread professionally mounted on a stretcher that is hinged for easier transport. Measurements are 80" square. Connecticut origin with family history available to purchaser.

Starbursts Quilt Circa 1850 Pennsylvania   $5,900  

Starbursts are just the beginning of patterning of this exciting quilt. Diamonds are filled with Robbing Peter to Pay Paul type circles that look quite different when used in half around the border. Red centers are strategically placed within the stars. The blue and ivory border chintz beautifully complements the printed fabrics of the interior. Tremendous care and planning to maske this a superb quilt. Measurements are 80@ x 88@. Pennsylvania origin> circa 1850.

Squares within squares such as this are called an Economy Patch quilt pattern. It is made of a terrific combination of late 19th century printed fabrics. Consistent use of yellow squares on the outer edge make a clever differentiation while actually using the same pattern throughout.The backing is a pink and green calico Bars pattern, often seen in quilts from southeast Pennsylvania. Measurements are 82" square; circa 1880. Excellent condition.

Beautiful Feathered Diamonds Quilt with a diagonal sashing. The white open diamonds highlight the fine quilting of feather patterns. The sawteeth, or feathers, are done with a wonderful variety of fabrics. Excellent, unwashed condition. Measures 80" x 96". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1870.

Nine Patch Quilt made of fine, printed wool challis fabrics on both front and back. It has a wonderfully rich color palette. Measurements are 72" x 88". Very good condition. There is a weak spot on one corner where it appears to have gotten caught on something. Made circa 1870.

One Patch Quilt in Squares: Ca. 1880; Maine   $1,435  

Nicely made One Patch quilt in which the pieces are set on point in groups of squares. The groups, made primarily of printed fabrics, are separated by solid white diamonds making a nice distinction between groups. It has a wonderful array of late 19th century fabrics. White binding is the backing turned over. Excellent condition; there is damage to one square. Measures 62" x 75". Maine origin; circa 1880.

This country quilt has a bit more sophistication than most. The blocks filled with One Patches are set so that there are diagonal lines of color. Bars between the blocks are solid color red while the border is a small print very close in color. Excellent condition; short green Bars between the blocks started as a darker color but have faded uniformly to a soft green. Measures 66" x 70". Frederick County, Maryland origin; circa 1880.

Variable Stars Quilt: Circa 1880's: Maryland   $675  

Variable Stars quilt done on a double pink ground. The stars are done with a nice selection of printed fabrics and a pleasing scale. Each block is 4 1/2" in diameter. The quilt is in excellent, unwashed condition. Backing is plain muslin. Quilted with chevrons in the border and intersecting diagonal lines in the body of the quilt. Measurements are 66" x 84". Postage Stamp quilt with a wide variety of late 19th century fabrics. The two borders most likely date to the late 1880's or 90's. Alternating the printed blocks with white ones gives the overall pattern a nice twinkle. It is in excellent, unwashed condition. The borders are quilted in a chevron pattern and the body of the quilt with diamonds. The back is plain muslin. Measurements are 70" x 79". Walkersville, Maryland (Frederick County) origin.
