An assembled group of six carnival knock down cats, each with lots of personality. They range in height from 12" to 20". All are made of canvas; wool hair on all but one. Painted on both front and back; all are in excellent, used condition. Priced as a group but would sell separately at $225. each for the small cats and $425. for the large.
Wonderful homemade miniature Empire Style Chest of Drawers in original red paint. Measures 11 1/2" to top of backsplash and 4 3/4" at deepest. Has three drawers with knobs and a secret drawer above them. Across the top are three smaller drawers, two of which have knobs. The center one was made without knobs to mirror the secret drawer below. A hole was made in the back to open the small center drawer. Two old wood supports on the back strengthen a crack. Homemade Turtle Doorstop made of braided wools with three dimensional button eyes. Measures 12 1/2" long and 8" wide. Both practical and amusing. Filled with large beans. Circa 1940.
Unique crocheted and appliqued figural wall hanging made by North Carolina artist Kate Clayton Donaldson (1864 - 1960) known as Granny Donaldson. Donaldson saw images of similar designs draped over the backs of cows in Italy and set out to make her own versions. Each of Donaldson's pieces is a different design. Made of homespun and dyed wools. Photo sculpture portraits are a well known form of folk art in Mexico. This example is particularly well done because of the fine, three dimensional draping of the sitter's dress as well as the painted and three dimensional jewelry. Circa 1940. Measures 12 1/2" tall and 8 1/4" wide. Base is nicely carved.
Eight well sculpted faces of male and female young adults. Range in size from 4" tall to 8". Six seem to be done in plaster; one in terra cotta and the largest is an unknown clay. Based upon the hairstyles, probably date to the 1940's or 50's. Three have open backs and are wired for mounting. The others are totally in the round. Circle pillow with appliqued date 1893 and initials SM. Hearts appliqued on both sides. Made of wool suiting with some old, very well done repairs. Measures 13" in diameter.
Cleverly designed metal guitar made entirely of recycled parts. Center is a clock face; includes many nails,bolts,screws,coils and pieces I cannot identify. Back opens and can have clock works installed, although I believe it more than stands on its own as a musical sculpture. Measures 25 1/2" tall and 7 1/2" wide. Circa 1950?
