This extremely bold, somewhat crude Pots of Flowers quilt was found in California but most likely was made in the South. It is a wonderfully folky version of a type of applique quilt usually done in a much finer form. Excellent, unwashed condition. Measures 68" x 80"; circa 1920.
Pickle Dish pattern quilt done in a lovely shade of burnt orange. This pattern is not often seen as it is so tedious to execute. Very nicely quilted; excellent condition. Backing is the same orange as the front. Could be used on the reverse as a whole cloth quilt with overlapping quilted circles. Measures 74" x 82". Indiana origin; circa 1920.
Delightful Baskets Quilt that combines pastel with some deeper, rich colors. Very well quilted; all solid color fabrics. Backing is a light shade of coral to which the quilt could be reversed to show off the fine workmanship. Excellent condition. Measures 78" x 92"; circa 1920. Indiana origin.
Beautifully executed variation of a Dresden Plate Quilt. This maker of this fine example interspersed four pointed pointed tips on each Plate, giving the quilt an interesting twist from the predictable pattern. She also did an her own take on the centers of each block as well as an intricate border. Very nicely quilted; pristine condition. Measures 88" square; circa 1930.
The small scale blocks of this Fence Rail Log Cabin Quilt are particularly impressive given the huge size of the quilt. It measures 93" x 110", probably the largest 1930's quilt I have seen. Well crafted; pristine, unwashed condition. A variety of printed and solid fabrics are beautifully blended to make the solid pink stand out like streaks of lightning. The pink tone is slightly dustier in color than shows on my monitor. This beautiful quilt would fit amply on a king size bed.
Original combination of a One Patch center framed by three rows of Four Patch blocks and a sawtooth border. Wide variety of softly toned prints including some conversationals, the most unusual of which is
seen in last thumbnail. Pristine, unwashed condition. Circa 1910; Pennsylvania origin. Measures 72" x 76".
Cross stitched crib quilt with images primarily of animals but also including a house, sailboat, automobile and little girl. Unusual for a cross stitched quilt to be done on the blue and white checked fabric that was most often used for aprons in the late 19th century. Each block is individually sewn then pieced together. Nicely quilted with cable pattern in the border. Excellent condition; circa 1910. Pennsylvania origin; measures 28 1/2" x 41".
Here is a total original - a shirting cotton Crazy Quilt with a Center Medallion of Bars. Most abstract quilts of this genre are done in a darker palette. It's a very dynamic but softly toned pattern. Excellent condition with a variety of striped shirting fabrics as unusual as the pattern. Measures 76" x 80". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1920.
Schoolhouse quilt with a variety of light, cheerful printed and solid fabrics. Each Schoolhouse is done with a different material. Nicely quilted with wreaths in the off blocks and a cable pattern in the border. Very good condition; has several tiny light smudges but not enough, in my opinion, to have it laundered.
Measures 72" x 80"; circa 1930. Pennsylvania origin.
Finely executed version of a traditional Touching Stars quilt. Well quilted with flowers and hearts. Pieced with very small diamonds. Pristine, unwashed condition. Nice variety of solid and printed fabrics that date from the late 19th to early 20th century. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1930. Measures 82" x 100.
Dramatic, unique Center Medallion Quilt done mostly in velvet with a smattering of wool and silk. Not finely quilted but the use of tan thread against the dark fabrics adds additional texture to the quilt. Backing is cotton. Nice combination of both regular and irregular blocks. Measures 74" x 80". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1920.
Wool Touching Stars quilt embellished with embroidery. Nice alternation of reds and yellows to the embroidery. Has a backing of cottons from the late 19th century but no batting. Excellent condition. Measures 62" x 76". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1910.
Amazing how two simple diamond shapes can create so many simultaneous patterns as in this Spinning Stars quilt. Fabrics are soft red and blue chambrays. Lots of whirling movement and positive/ negative effects. Pristine, unwashed condition. Nicely quilted with a combination of floral and geometric patterns. Measures 76" x 78". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1900.
