$2800.

This gem of a crib quilt in a pattern that combines Sunflowers and Hourglasses is the miniature version of Item # 908106. The borders are different as this has Evening Stars on three sides and the full size version has a zigzag border. Both come from the same estate. This seems to be a pattern popular with one family; I have never seen it elsewhere. Professionally laundered; excellent condition. Measures 36" x 39". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880.

Extraordinarily unusual Stars Quilt dated March the 27th 1846 and signed Susanna Johnson. Rarely does one find a quilt on this richly colored indigo ground. The Stars are actually a variation with which I am not familiar. Within the eight points is something of a pinwheel that I have not been able to identify as a known pattern. The small yellow circles in the center are a lovely addition of color and pattern. Excellent condition; Pennsylvania origin. Measures 84" x 90".

Extraordinary Miniature Sunflowers and Hourglasses quilt set in a Nine Patch block. The scale of these pieces is amazing. Each Sunflower is 3 1/2" in diameter. The bold sashing and zigzag border add solidarity to the many pieces and fabrics used throughout the quilt. Surely this is an original creation. Excellent condition; professionally laundered. Pennsylvania origin. Measures 68" x 84"; circa 1880.

$1400.

Wool Crazy Quilt with some of the most unusual blocks that I have seen. The cauldron in the fireplace may be unique. Forty two star flag is a personal interpretation as, in 1890, the official flag went from 38 to 43 stars. Other blocks also include a man in the moon; house and horse with a cat. Repeated pieced fans give unity to this very bright and busy Crazy Quilt. Embroidery attaches the front to a backing; there is no batting. Lacking a binding but one could easily be added to finish this in ...click for details

$695.

Rare fabric silhouette of a full body male. Done in silk and velvet on wool. Fabric of hat was cleverly chosen to resemble beaver. Initially, I thought this was a needle case but realized that it has no function other than the pleasure of it. Probably done about 1860 but a person more familiar with costume might say earlier. Professionally mounted on stretcher that measures 11" x 14".
