Mint, unwashed Postage Stamp quilt. Each piece is just 3/4" to a side. Fabrics are well placed to create diagonal lines of the solid orange blocks. In addition to the primary pattern, the off blocks form Double Four Patches. Quilted in diagonal lines. Measures 80 x 88". Pennsylvania origin; 1880's.
It's difficult to find a name for this dynamic geometric quilt because it forms so many patterns. The basic block is much like a Basket pattern. The adjoining red blocks form a Bow Tie or Hourglass. Each square divided into a red and green triangle surrounded by a peach sawtooth is another way to look at the primary pattern. In sum, it's a fabulous, original piece with a lots of movement. Unusually large Oakleaf pattern quilt in excellent, unwashed condition. Very nicely quilted. Measures 98" square, ample for queen or king size beds. Beautiful shade of marine blue. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1920.
Charming hooked rug with a horse head surrounded by four lucky horseshoes. These two literal elements are surrounded by more abstract concentric squares, making for a very pleasing composition. Nice combination of soft and deep colors. Excellent condition; professionally mounted. Horse's eye is a piece of appliqued cotton; rest of the rug is wool. Circa 1920; measures 33" x 38".
Miniature silk hexagons unfinished quilt piece professionally mounted. Each hexagon measures less than 3/4" in diameter. Basting stitches and paper backing are visible. Wonderful colors with the central block done in striped fabric that gives a radiating effect. Good, but far from perfect condition. Frame measures 23 1/2" x 25". Circa 1860.
Fabulous early, huge Feathered Stars quilt done in red calico on white. Excellent condition; fabrics are strong. Generous king size; measures 105" square.
